Hi Terry,
How's it going? I was interested to read about your stay-cation. You are right that this is a newly-coined word. It was first used in 2006 on a Canadian comedy program on TV. Recently, it has become very well-used because the price of gasoline climbed pretty high (for here). It went up to about $1.50 per litre. Now it has dropped down to about $1.40 per litre. Regardless, just a few months ago, the price was around $1.00 per litre. To most people, it feels like the cost of driving anywhere has become very expensive. That makes staying at home for vacations, the stay-cation, much more interesting. You probably won't find "stay-cation" in most dictionaries. There's the "Urban Dictionary" on the Internet, however, that includes this word.
During stay-cations, people often do what you mentioned: watch movies, have meals at restaurants near their homes or do some fun art-related projects, if that's what interests them. For other people, working on hobbies like gardening might be a choice. It's just a chance to have a break without going very far.
I know of the various bands you mentioned. I have a 13-year-old student who is a really big music fan. Thankfully, she educates me on the pop music scene in Korea. The band she likes the most is the Wonder Girls. I think their recent hit, So Hot, was quite good. I watched the video with English subtitles and I liked the humour in the song. It seems like they are laughing at their own lives in a good-natured way. You know, as if they are saying, "it's troublesome to be so fabulous." I heard Epik High perform one of Jewelry's songs (I think it was Baby One More Time?) Anyway, they did a great job! I saw a couple of Lee, Hyori's videos since she's made her comeback. She's a great dancer.
OK, next topic for your daily writing. Could you tell me about the TV shows you'd like to watch on your stay-cation? What are your favorites? I really like Lost, but it's not on TV now because if has finished for the season. It will start again in September, so there's not much happening on the small screen for me. Let me know about your TV favorites.
Oh, and one suggestion about what you wrote. You said:
That''s because my father is busy doing his works
"Work" is one of those things like hair or rice that is considered "uncountable." You need to write:
That's because my father is busy doing his work.
Catch you later, too.
All the best,
Gwen
