Re: Food and medicines across cultures

Hi Terry,
Yep, it's cold everywhere these days! Actually, here in Vancouver, it's not bad. The temperature this afternoon has been around 6 degrees Celcius, but it's pretty cold in Toronto, on the other side of the country. Today it was -2 there. We don't have any snow yet, but we're getting lots of rain.
You're right about the likelihood of catching a cold or flu. This week, I could feel a sore throat coming on. Fortunately, I took some medicine and had a good sleep and it was gone in the morning. I'm not always that lucky. How about you? Any sniffles (stuffy nose) or flu these days? Do you have any remedies that you always use when you catch a cold? I use this:
If I don't have any of this around the house, I just have hot water with lemon and honey. That helps too.
I tried making the sweet potato pizza you described. I followed the recipe pictures you sent as well as the picture of the Pizza Hut Rich Gold pizza. My pizza turned out well and I've been eating it, but it's a little different taste than I'm used to. The sweet potato taste is a little nutty. I didn't like it as much as I expected...sorry....Hey, if it turns out you don't like bannock, I will understand. Food is very cultural.
Meanwhile, I saw the picture of injulme and I'm pretty sure have eaten this before. Is it possible I ate this when I lived in Japan? Maybe they have a similar sweet. I remember liking it, especially the outside soy bean flour. I liked the nutty taste as well as the chewy texture. You asked about the exact word to describe this taste. Good question. Some things don't translate, do they? I think "nutty" or "delicately-flavored" is as close as I can get too.
What are you doing for fun this weekend? It's rainy and cold here, as I mentioned earlier, so we are hanging around the house. We just ate another sweet treat: cinamon buns and we had lattes with them.
When the weather is miserable, we gotta find ways to keep warm and happy, right?
Hope you are staying warm and happy this weekend.
L8R,
Gwen
